Does Prince Charles Pay for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry?

  • Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are no longer receiving any money from Prince Charles.
  • The couple had previously been getting funds from the Duchy of Cornwall.

Remember when Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped down from the royal family and announced that they wanted to be financially independent? Actually, gonna go ahead and dust off this quote: “We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.”

For a while, there was some uncertainty as to whether or not Prince Charles would keep supporting the Duke and Duchess from his private fund, but it looks like they’re officially not taking any $$ from him.

While Meghan and Harry *had* been getting a sum from Charles’ Duchy of Cornwall estate, Newsweek reports that they’re no longer receiving funds in the wake of their massive production deal with Netflix—estimated to be worth $50-100 million. The New York Times also confirmed this in a correction to their article announcing the Netflix deal, writing “An earlier version of this article referred incorrectly to a source of income for Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan. They do not draw income from the Duchy of Cornwall, as they did before they left Britain.”

The lucrative Netflix deal is reportedly being “scrutinized by the royal household” as part of Meghan and Harry’s agreement stepping down from royal duties—with a source telling The Mirror (via The Express) that “under the terms of their deal to forgo their royal duties, they agreed any commercial deals would be subject to discussion.”

Cool-cool-cool, either way cannot wait to watch Meghan and Harry’s Netflix content.
