To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of seasonal beauty trends. My motto 99 percent of the time? Just go ahead and wear whatever your little heart desires, no matter the month or the vibes on your Instagram. HOWEVER, nail polish colors are the only exception. For that, I am all about switching up my go-to mani shade to fit with the time of year. Call me basic (hey, wow, mean), but there’s just something fun about swapping your polish stash with the seasons to contrast or match with your cold-weather clothes. And because winter will be here before you know it, I’ve rounded up the 23 trendiest winter nail colors to try ASAP. Get ready for a lot of sparkles, moody blue, grays, and blacks, plus a few classics on the list, too.

3

This Shimmery Slate Winter Nail Color

Cirque Colors Velvetine Slate Shimmer Nail Polish

I know it’s not even winter yet, but I love this shimmery slate nail polish so much, I’m already using it to DIY my manis and pedis. The gray-blue shade is infused with teeny tiny copper flecks for an eye-catching multidimensional effect.

4

This Metallic Lilac Winter Nail Color

Essie Nail Polish in Girly Grunge

I get it: Lilac can sometimes feel like a spring or summer nail polish color. But when combined with an icy, foil-like finish? It’s totally on trend for the winter season.

5

This Silver Winter Nail Color

Mischo Beauty Nail Lacquer in Magnifique

This holographic silver nail color from Mischo Beauty basically screams “wear me for winter!” Try it with your favorite silver jewelry for a trendy, monochromatic metal effect.

8

This Plum Winter Nail Color

Rooted Woman Nail Polish in Renewed

Even if you’re not into most purples, I guarantee you’ll like the way this deep-plum nail polish color looks on your nails for winter. The almost-black shade is moody, edgy, and super pretty.

9

This White Winter Nail Color

OPI Nail Lacquer in Alpine Snow

OPI’s Alpine Snow is the perfect crisp white nail color for winter. I mean, it legit looks as white as snow on your nails.  Just apply three thin coats for an opaque, streak-free finish.

10

This Blue-Gray Winter Nail Color

Essie Expressie Quick-Dry Nail Color in Air Dry

I’ve been using this polish from Essie for weeks now and I love how easy it makes doing your nails at home (P.S. you can watch me demo it in our new Sh*t We Stole video series). Anyway, it requires no base or top coat and dries in 60 seconds (go ahead and time it if you don’t believe me). And the soft, blue-gray shade is pretty much the perfect winter nail color.

11

This Oxblood Winter Nail Color

Essie Gel Couture Nail Polish in Spiked With Style

Once it gets cold outside, I retire my bright polishes and bust out the darker, edgier winter nail colors, like this oxblood shade from Essie. It’s the perfect amount of sexy and vampy—plus, the gel-like formula lasts for a solid week without any chips.

12

This Rose-Gold Winter Nail Color

Smith & Cult Nail Polish in A Little Lovely

If you love winter because of all the holiday fun, this festive polish with gold and rose-colored glitter is definitely for you. Apply one layer for a subtle sheen, or multiple coats for a thick, chunky-glitter effect.

13

This Shimmery Navy Winter Nail Color

Christian Louboutin The Noirs Nail Colour in Bianca

I know this shimmery navy nail color is pricey (’sup, Louboutin), but you guys, it’s honestly so perfect for the winter months. It’s dark, moody, and the bottle is pretty damn cool looking too.

14

This Pale-Pink Winter Nail Color

Deborah Lippmann Nail Polish in Delicate

This creamy, pale-pink nail color is infused with shimmery light-blue flecks that make it so pretty and refreshing for winter. I love wearing it with cozy knits and soft cashmere.

15

This Neutral Winter Nail Color

Tom Ford Nail Lacquer in Toasted Sugar

TBH, you never go wrong with a sheer, neutral/nude nail polish shade like this one from Tom Ford. It looks good any time of year—including the winter months. And if (okay, when) it starts to chip, that won’t be super noticeable.

16

This Multi-Color Winter Nail Color

JINsoon Nail Polish in Dotty

This confetti-style nail polish from Jin Soon is the fastest way to make dreary winter weather feel significantly less shitty. It’s chunky like a glitter, bright like a neon, and super versatile too. Wear it alone over a clear base coat or layered over your favorite neutral nail polish.

17

This Earthy Winter Nail Color

Tenoverten Nail Color in Hester

Earthy, clay-inspired nail polish colors are going to be everywhere this winter—trust me. So get in on the trend and try this warm tan shade from Tenoverten. The all-natural formula is 8-free, which means it’s made without iffy ingredients commonly found in conventional nail polish brands.

18

This Icy Blue Winter Nail Color

Sally Hansen Good Kind Pure Nail Polish in Crystal Blue

Not only is this icy blue a super-pretty winter nail polish color, it’s 16-free (aka formulated without the chemicals traditionally found in nail polishes), made with plant-based ingredients, and completely vegan too. Pretty impressive for a drugstore nail polish that’s less than $7.

19

This Berry Winter Nail Color

Sally Hansen Color Therapy Nail Polish in Wine Therapy

Need to paint your nails for a last-minute holiday party? Reach for this wine-colored winter nail color with sparkly flecks from Sally Hansen. It’s infused with nail-strengthening oils, too, so your nail beds won’t flake and crack from wearing it.

20

This Gray Winter Nail Color

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Color in Show Steel-er

I consider this creamy gray nail color from Sally Hansen a neutral for winter—it looks great on all skin tones and goes with whatever you’re wearing. The best parts though? You don’t need to use a base or top coat with the formula, and it dries insanely fast.

21

This Bright-Red Winter Nail Color

OPI Infinite Shine Nail Laquer in Big Apple Red

My holiday checklist (in no particular order) includes an excessive amount of hot chocolate, Christmas music on repeat, and a festive manicure the entire month of December. The shade I always go with? This winter-approved red nail color from OPI.

22

This Gold Winter Nail Color

Essie Nail Polish in Good As Gold

Not into thick, chunky glitter? NBD. You can still get in on the sparkly nail trend for winter with this shimmery gold polish from Essie. It has finely-milled, light-reflecting pigments that’ll make your mani sparkle.

23

This Sparkly Green Winter Nail Color

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Neblue-La

Get chip-free nails for a full week with this two step at-home gel nail polish. Paint two coats of the step 1 polish (I’m v into this sparkly green winter nail color) on bare nails, wait a minute or two, and then follow up with the step 2 gel top coat
