This year we hit pause on a lot of our plans—from IRL happy hours to, like, all of our international vacay ideas—but we’re still looking forward to (safely) celebrating the holidays. Whether you plan to spend it at very small gatherings with your family or hopping on back-to-back video calls with your BFFs, we’ve got the beat for you. Beauty Director Julee Wilson takes you through her most eye-catching and glow-getting holiday beauty look—one that will wow both in-person and at all of your virtual get-togethers. The best part: She uses products you can conveniently find at your local Ulta Beauty or ulta.com.
1. Lay down your base.
Buff the UOMA Beauty Say What?! Foundation across your face using a dense foundation brush. Its buildable consistency can provide the coverage you’re after. Then, apply the easy-to-blend Tarte Shape Tape Concealer on any skin concerns you may have. (Wilson tapped the creamy formula onto her dark circles and areas of hyperpigmentation.)
2. Apply color to your cheeks.
Pro Tip: For a more high-impact look, swap your usual blush for an eye shadow pigment like the Tarte Chrome Paint Shadow Pot in Frosé. Wilson tapped the powder onto the apples of her cheeks and blended it into her cheek bones using an angled brush.
3. Sweep on a glimmering highlighter.
Use a fluffy brush to sweep a finely-milled, warm-toned powder highlighter (like the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Highlighter in Champagne Pop) along your cheekbones to achieve a lit-from-within radiance.
4. Prep your eyelids.
Sweep the Urban Decay Cosmetics Original Eyeshadow Primer Potion (which is included in the Urban Decay Cosmetics Stoned Vibes Major Gems Gift Set) all over your eyelids. “This primer helps your eyeshadow stay put and makes its color pop,” Wilson says.
5. Apply an all-over eyeshadow color and liner.
For an unexpected eye look for the holidays, brush on the Cyberpunk (a medium purple with an iridescent finish) shade from the Urban Decay Cosmetics Naked Ultraviolet Palette all over your eyelids, stopping right below the brow bone.
Use the NYX Wear Gel Liner in White (from the NYX Professional Makeup Diamonds & Ice, Please! Epic Wear Liner Kit) to outline and fill in your shape. Then, apply Jade from the Urban Decay Cosmetics Stoned Vibes Major Gems Gift Set above the gel formula.
6. Tap on your glitter.
Tap a glitter formula where your two eyeshadow colors meet to make your eye look s-h-i-n-e. For this, Wilson chose the Stila Glitter and Glow Eye Shadow in the Stila Two Lucky Stars Eye Set because of how easy it was to apply. “The formula sets quickly and the brush is thin,” she said.
7. Pump up your lashes.
To up the glam on your look, choose a set of false lashes from the Ardell Naked Lash Lookbook. Wilson is a self-proclaimed lash pro, who suggests letting the glue get tacky and looking downward for your easiest application. Finish your lash look with a few light sweeps of Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, which Wilson says can blend your real lashes with the faux ones.
8. Paint on a long-wearing liquid lipstick.
Reach for a matte formula in a punchy hue for a stand-out look. Wilson used shade Candy Cane from the Too Faced Christmas Snuggles and Melted Kisses Liquid Lipstick Set.
9. Top your lips with gloss.
The MAC Clear Lip Glass—a non-sticky lip gloss—gave Wilson’s lips a mirror-like shine.
The Final Look
Even though Wilson’s look screams F-E-S-T-I-V-E, it’s actually super easy to do at home. The fun, unexpected color combination is super fresh. (Like, no red and green eyeshadow over here.)
