Shopping online is nice and all, but didn’t you think we’d be like…further along with purchases and tech by now? Like it should all be a little more convenient than it actually is? Turns out, there’s a relatively new app called Nate that just may be the future of shopping, because you can literally buy anything online just using a phone number. (Yeah, I know…dangerously easy.) And the part that makes it even more timely: You can literally text your friends/fam/whoever’s on your holiday gift list to surprise them with your purchases for them! Take a look:

Essentially, when you first sign up with Nate, you put in all the shipping info you dread repeating for every. Single. Purchase. You. Make. Online. Ughhhh, right? Doing it just this first time means you literally never have to think about it again. Next up, shop on your phone like normal, and “share” the items you want to add to cart with Nate. You can then buy it right there or add it to your very own curated wishlist.
And yep, it works on every single shopping site from direct-to-consumer faves like Allbirds and Dagne Dover to the Net-a-Porters of the world. “It would only work if it worked everywhere,” says founder Albert Saniger. “In order for it to be truly universal, it had to be completely independent from all sites.”
But back to gifting: If you want to buy someone a lil special something, all you have to do is enter their phone number. If they’re also signed up with Nate, the item will automatically be sent to them—if they’re not, they’ll simply be notified that they have a gift waiting and they can enter all their info themselves. Aka, all the potential for a horrible gift-giving fail, like sending to an old address or the wrong address is donezo. What you’re left with: All the happy surprise of giving/receiving presents with none of the hassle. Yay!
