Hello and welcome to a roller coaster of an article in which we explore the question: Will there be a red carpet for the 2020 MTV VMAs, and if there will be, how do you watch it?
For starters, let’s back up. The 2020 MTV VMAs are happening on Sunday, August 30, at 8 pm ET. Keke Palmer is the host! Artists like Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, and The Weeknd are expected to perform. It is going to be exciting! But one thing people have been talking about is whether or not there will be a red carpet where the stars can showcase their historically wild looks (I mean this IS where Lil Kim blessed us with her iconic purple pasty moment).

The current global pandemic we are in plus social distance requirements have meant that most of the awards shows and large events that have happened recently have gone without a red carpet and with some celebrity appearances on Zoom. But apparently, according to DMs fans have been getting on Twitter, the VMAs IS planning on having a formal red carpet of some kind.

So…YES! There will be a red carpet, but that’s about all we know. It’s unclear if said red carpet will be virtual or some type of in-person event keeping all CDC recommendations in mind. Typically, you can watch any VMA pre-show coverage, including red carpets, live on MTV, MTV.com, and the MTV app (available on iTunes, Google Play, Roku, and elsewhere), so you’ll most likely get to see whatever form this red carpet takes there. Pre-show coverage starts at 6:30 pm ET, btw. And, of course, we’ll be rounding up the looks as they come through here.
I think we can all agree that no matter how it goes down this year, the VMAs red carpet is bound to be interesting! See ya Sunday, friends!
